Shuxing Wei Receives Honors in ACG Cup

2014 May 9

A three-person team from Saint Joseph's University's graduate financial services program competed in the final round for the ACG Philadelphia Cup, a business case competition presented by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and sponsored by KPMG, LLP. The team, mentored by Bob Dean, Ahmet Tezel, Ph.D., Rajneesh Sharma, Ph.D., and Amy Lipton, Ph.D. of the finance department, won third place and $3,000 for their success. The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business placed first.

Each team analyzed and presented their solutions and recommendations to a complex business case that required a combination of corporate strategy, finance and valuation skills. The case presented by the SJU team focused on a struggling sports apparel manufacturer looking for strategic alternatives for success.

Students Xue Yang, Yufei Lu and Shuxing Wei competed against six area graduate business programs. The other schools were: Drexel University's LeBow College of Business; La Salle University School of Business; Penn State University's Smeal College of Business; Temple University's Fox School of Business; University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School; and the Villanova School of Business.

The Haub School of Business' Department of Finance sponsored the student team through the ACG Cup competition.

"The ACG Cup has established itself as a leading business case competition," says Sharma, chair and associate professor of finance. "The 'Philadelphia Cup' provides a worthwhile opportunity for the students to challenge themselves in tackling a real-world business problem in a competitive environment."
