2015 Apr 30

Samantha Melnick of Enola, PA (17025-2042), was inducted into Saint Joseph's University's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), an international honor society for business, on Sunday, April 19. Induction into BGS is the highest academic honor a business student can receive in an undergraduate and graduate level program in a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.

The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business as well as personal and professional excellence business practice. The three ideals of are honor, wisdom and earnestness.

"One of the hallmarks of a Jesuit education is to strive for excellence. We recognize and honor excellence in our students, faculty and alumni with induction into BGS," says Stephen Porth, Ph.D., associate dean of the Haub School of Business at SJU. "The Haub School chapter of BGS has been recognized as one of the top chapters in the world for eight consecutive years. That is a reflection of the excellence of our top students, loyal alumni and outstanding faculty." Porth leads the SJU chapter of BGS, along with assistant professor of business intelligence and analytics, Ruben A. Mendoza, Ph.D.

In addition to the myriad of Saint Joseph's students inducted into BGS this year, David Tierno '63, a retired senior partner and chief human resources officer of Ernst and Young, and Ginny Miori, Ph.D., associate professor of decision & systems sciences were honored. Miori was inducted as the faculty honoree this year, while Tierno was inducted as a member of Saint Joseph's distinguished alumni.
