Jonathan Lopes Finishes Among Top 10 in Global Investment Competition

2015 Dec 17

Senior finance and actuarial science major Jonathan Lopes of Moorestown, N.J. (08057), finished in the top 10 among hundreds of participants in the 2015 Fall ETF Global Portfolio Challenge.

Lopes finished eighth in the competition, which invites students from around the globe to construct a portfolio through an online simulation.

Student investors select between four and 10 exchange-traded funds (ETF) using a theoretical endorsement of $100,000 to complete the challenge and are assessed on their investments' performance.

"I like to treat everything as an opportunity to learn," says Lopes, a former president of the Dean's Leadership Program who has a minor in mathematics and is active in SJU's Finance Society. "Going into this challenge, I did not know much about exchange traded funds, but I knew this was something I wanted to explore."

Lopes will join the contest's top 25 overall finishers at the 2016 Spring ETP Forum in New York City on April 7, where he will have the opportunity to network with over 500 financial professionals and partake in the nation's second-largest forum of its kind.

"This is a wonderful honor for Jonathan," says Dean Joseph A. DiAngelo, Jr., Ed.D. '70. "We are proud of him and the way he has represented the Haub School of Business."

"Saint Joseph's University has become an integral part of who I am," says Lopes, who has accepted a financial analyst position with JPMorgan Chase & Co., beginning after graduation. "I take a lot of pride in my education."
